Conquering the blank page

I signed up at blogger.com a couple months ago, so why no posts so far?  The blank page.  It's hard to know where to start or what to say, first impressions and all that jazz.  While the idea of a blog appeals to me, I'm not certain why or what my goal is.  In fact I despise blogs.  Each time I here a news anchor turn to a blog, or do an update on the happenings in the "blogisphere," I get this throbbing pain due to the sheer absurdity of the situation.  After all the only requirements/qualifications needed for a blog, are internet access and an abundance of free time.  I suppose a healthy ego, and a numbness to the shame that presuming your thoughts are special should bring on should also be added to the requirements.

Why do we feel driven to abuse the opportunities provided by the connectedness of the web to foist our every thought or feeling onto others?  After all someone once said that it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.  Twitter and facebook updates offer new avenues of communication, but more often than not, the medium is reduced to a constant stream of the banal.  Not every thought needs to be shared, and some thoughts can't be expressed adequately within the character restraints of a twitter/facebook post.

A blog should perhaps be more of a conversation with oneself, much like journals/diaries served to past generations.  The limitation of the old private medium of written self-chronicles, is that we fail to communicate that very human side of ourselves, unless we die famous.  But in the case of famous journals/dialogues, something of that human sharing is lost to the cheap thrill of peeking in on a loved/hated stranger.  Blogs offer that same chance to express your inner dialogue, but at the same time share with others that they aren't alone in facing issues or troubles.

Well that is a start anyways.  Fairly rambling and abruptly ended, but a beginning nonetheless.  I think it would be best to approach this as an opportunity to spill thought upon a page, at least for now.  Form and direction can come latter.
